Day sixty Nine
You better lose yourself in the music, the moment you’re on it, you better never let it go, you only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow, this opportunity comes once in a life yo….
In case you’ve been living under a rock, are too young or something else, the words above are from ‘Lose yourself’ – Eminem’s Oscar winning song that is both reality rap and motivational sermon in one.
I’ve been binging on a show called last chance U on Netflix. It’s a reality docuseries about junior college athlete students trying to make their dreams come true with the last chance they have.
These athletes have squandered various opportunities to play in mainstream college football (American football to us in the U.K.) and now they find themselves playing in JuCo (junior college) with the hopes of being scouted by a D1 or D2 school in order to eventually enter the NFL draft and live out their dreams.
This hard hitting reality series has so many life lessons and hard to watch moments as you see belief, fear and reality collide in the lives of the coaches and players we are following.
Some athletes have had such difficulties in life that you begin to hope they will get everything they need to just live a different life.
Other athletes will frustrate you as you see them throw their lives away due to a lack of self belief, peer pressure, following the crowd, too much laziness and not enough discipline to name but a few….
But it’s not just the students, the coaches are also a case study of the pressure to succeed and how it can crush you if you let it.
I see a lot of fixed mindsets, coaches that take no responsibility but rather blame their team for everything.
This is a moving series that will have you go through a multitude of emotions while learning a lot about life and some of the things that hold us all back from becoming all we can be
