Who doesn’t want it? Who ever said that they’d prefer to work and slave away at a job they hate until the day they collapsed?
What does freedom mean to you?
There are all kinds of freedoms that we as a society have fought for and continue to fight for
The fundamental ones include but are not limited to
- Human freedom: i.e abolished slavery. Unfortunately this is a continued fight across the world as people are trafficked into forced labour of many forms
- Love freedom: the fight for people of all backgrounds to love whoever they choose, however they choose and whenever
- Gender freedoms: equality of all kinds, equal pay, gender equality period
- Religious freedom: the fight to give people the right to believe and worship whatever they deem worthy of their praise and adoration.
And many more freedoms that have helped society to progressively move forward
These freedoms have not come cheap and I’m merely scraping the surface of their true cost
I wanted to keep this light. The main point being that the human spirit was never designed to feel trapped or caged by anything
Our natural disposition as a species is to grow and evolve, each generation learning from the previous one
But that’s us as a whole, on a wider scale. What about at an individual level? We all have specific freedoms that were either still actively fighting for
Mine are uniquely my own as yours will be to you
As I sit here thinking about the things I want out of life, the person I’d like to become and the things I’d still like to experience
I can’t help but feel fortunate that though I may still have a long way to go, the many things I’ve already experienced, are things that would appear in someone else’s wish list
We all have those accomplishments. We all have lucky experiences that others are hoping to one day experience
We should (and I hate to should on people) be grateful for our freedoms even if to us they appear limited
It could be a lot worse
